We have a phased programme of building and re-development projects in place at Church High, to ensure we continue to offer the best learning environments possible for our pupils. This section contains some of the most recently completed work.

Larger classroom area

Our reception classes are now taught in one large area this year, giving more space to facilitate the distinct curriculum. These play areas are especially suited to Foundation Stage and Early Years education, as well as providing the girls with one stable learning environment. The area has been completely refurbished and teaching has been further enhanced by the use of an interactive whiteboard.

New reception area

Our Infant Department now has a refurbished reception area, providing seating for visitors and display space for the girls' work, photographs of recent school activities and notices. It provides a great first impression for our Infant Department, providing an ideal waiting area for parents and visitors.

Library

An excellent new library facility has been created in the heart of our Junior School. It features a computing facility to provide an attractive and comfortable area where girls can browse, choose new reading material and carry out research for their lessons.

Teaching aids

Our Junior School curriculum is also developing. In addition to the importance laid on core and traditionally academic subjects, we stimulate learning by offering a wide range of subjects from an early stage in the girls' development.

To support this breadth of learning we have equipped all our classrooms with interactive whiteboards and refitted our IT room with new computers. This technology means there are plans to include film making on the timetable in the near future.

Learning Resources Centre and IT Suite

Our Senior School’s Learning Resources Centre, which opened In February 2003, is the result of an ambitious plan which completely transformed the original gym into the forefront of our e-learning initiative.

Our girls have access to the most up-to-date technology, alongside an extensive selection of books, to develop their research and independent learning skills in a structured and supportive way.

This e-learning initiative also includes our extensive IT suite, situated on the top floor of our Senior School building.

Sixth form facilities

In the last few years, there have been many exciting developments in our sixth form department. Our sixth formers now have their own building, Tankerville House, which is separate to the main Senior School.

Since 2003 pupils have benefited from a new, state of the art common room and adjacent deli-cafe, which serves hot drinks and sandwiches, salads and snacks. Tankerville House also has its own IT suite, in addition to the excellent facilities in the main Senior School block, meaning the girls can work in their own dedicated work room without distraction.

Sporting excellence

We were in a position to convert our original gym into a Learning Resources Centre because of the creation of our new sports pavilion, situated on the main school site.

This is a large sports hall providing full facilities for many and varied sporting activities. It has been in constant use, before and after school as well as through the timetabled day, as pupils take advantage of the breadth of extra-curricular sporting activities available to them.

Music and the performing arts

Performing Arts, incorporating music and drama, are also benefitting from improved and expanding accommodation. There is now a large dedicated rehearsal room in the Tankerville Building and the music department boasts a number of fully equipped teaching and practice rooms. These departments have staged a number of excellent productions, including On the Town and West Side Story, over recent years.

Music is extremely popular at Church High and many of our girls have individual instrumental music lessons. This is why we have established an additional dedicated Junior School music room, which provides a fantastic setting for music lessons as well as group music teaching.
